How to use this calculator
- Measure total wall width and height.
- Enter supplier roll dimensions and pattern repeat.
- Check openings as reference area, then set a waste allowance and price.
The calculation formula
Drops = ceil(wall width ÷ roll width). Drop length = ceil(wall height ÷ pattern repeat) × repeat (or wall height if no repeat). Rolls = ceil(drops × (1 + waste%) ÷ floor(roll length ÷ drop length)).
Worked example
A 15 ft wide × 8 ft high wall with 20 in roll width needs 9 vertical drops. A 33 ft roll yields 4 plain 8 ft drops, so three rolls before waste.
Assumptions and limitations
- Openings are shown in net face area but may not save a complete patterned drop.
- Pattern matching, reverse hanging, wall geometry and batch lot can increase orders.
Actual project costs may be affected by supplier rates, material grade, labor market, location, disposal, site condition, access, permits, taxes, and schedule. All entered prices are yours to revise. See our methodology and disclaimer.
Frequently asked questions
Why do patterned rolls need extra length?
Each strip may need to align to the next pattern repeat, which increases its cut length.
Can I subtract doors and windows?
Their area is informational. Do not assume the removed area yields reusable full drops.
